First, a big thanks to all who responded to my "clunk"
question. The response was a bit overwhelming, but much
appreciated.

Jacked up the rear end tonight (after checking the list
for a few more suggestions) and got to work checking
things out. The third area was the charm (depending from
which perspective you look at it).

The right front differential mounting bracket is split
on both sides of the mounting bolt. Definitely would
cause a "clunk" when torqueing out of first and second.
Still checked the u-joints and as far as I can tell (Jack,
I'm still waiting your response to my last question) they
are fine.

Will call local triumph garage to have it welded or replaced.
Will probably get the reinforcement on the sides put on also.

Thanks again for all the help.
