     Wait Scott!

Think about that for a minute longer. If the cable has snapped, it's
because something was trying to turn it and it resisted. If the gear
binds, the cable just waits for it to turn again. I think the problem
is at the speedometer end, rather than the transmission end.

I am planning on replacing the speedometer drive
gear since I have snapped 2 speedo cables in the
past month. Appears that the gear works for a while
and then binds. My question to the list, can I
remove the speedometer gear housing without
draining the oil? Will I lose any oil when I
remove the housinbg to get to the gear?

     Thanks
