Greetings again Scions.
It has been a long time since I was on the list (last September I seem
to recall) and a lot has changed since that time.
Biggest news is that the Spit will be a feature article in the May
edition of "European Car" magazine. Patrick Paternie finally wrote
the article and we did the photo shoot in January - what a hoot that
was! First the police chased us out of a public park where we had
parked the Spit on the grass for the photos. Then, whilst in the
midst of shooting some "action" shots of me driving the car, one of
the bolts that holds the right caliper to the upright fell out! I got
on the brakes and "clatter, clatter, clatter" eminated from the right
front fenderwell with reduced slowing of the vehicle. Fortunately
there was plenty of run off room and no harm resulted to either the
Spit or the driver (me). Whew!
We nursed it home in the "slow" lane of the highway, being very
careful not to put ourselves in the position of having to jam on the
binders. I had to order a replacement bolt which took a week to
arrive, then we finished the photo shoot later in January. Patrick
has submitted the draft version of the article, and it looks like the
May edition will carry the story.
But, alas, I have decided to part ways with the Spit. Sad but true.
So, my Spitfire 4 is now for sale - all reasonable offers considered.
If any of you are not familiar with the extent of the restoration, you
may want to pick up the May edition of European car magazine. I am
thinking of moving into a TR-3, or failing that (gasp!) an MGA. (Hey,
stop throwing those stones at me!) Look at it this way, I will still
be driving an LBC and I'll still lurk on the Triumphs list even if I
end up with the MGA.
Oh by the way, some of you may recall that I am also working on a
Porsche 356 for the missus. Update - it is completely stripped and
ready to be bead blasted this month. Floors are shot, some rust in
the sills, but nothing too serious. BUT HOLY GOD ARE THE REPLACEMENT
PARTS EXPENSIVE!!! I told the missus this will likely be the last
Porsche in our garage if I have it my way. More to follow later.
