why a hotter cam?

Listers, my TR6's camshaft has seen better days. Not overly worn but
needing a regrind.
I DO have a couple of hundreds burning a hole in my pocket and my
girlfriend suggests we spend it all on sushi and sake... I do not want to
compromise the ride and most importantly the reliability of the car, so I'm
turning to the Wisdom Of The List for advice: would a mildly tweaked cam
give the car more OOoomph without side effects? Headers will be installed.
