Dave,
I guess that would account for the gap.  However, I can't see how (or
why) anybody would go to a great deal of trouble to make a modification
of such magnitude.  The two frames attach in a completely different
manner.  It is more likely (if the glass is properly installed) that as
someone early speculated, the frame has been bent out of shape.

I'd be extremely interested in knowing the outcome of this situation.
