Ted,

I looked at one at a local Volvo dealer recently. There are several
differences which would need to be addressed before it would fit on your
car.

1. The adapter between the TR gearbox and the o/d unit. Volvos are
different from your car.

2. The rear mount is different. On my 76, it has the two round rubber
mounts, earlier 6's had a single rubber mount (check parts catalogs for
when they changed). The Volvo one I saw used something completely
different and was attached further towards the front than the TR mounts.

3. Speedo cable attachment and gearing. The attachment looked different
to me. The gearing is likely different (I think).

4. Backout switch. I think Volvos only had the o/d on 4th gear. My 76
has it on 3rd & 4th. All TR6s with J-type o/d had it on 3 & 4. So if you
want this (not necessary) you would need to change that setup as well.

Also, when I looked at this, the gearbox and o/d were $100 Canadian for
both. The guy selling was a mechanic from a local Volvo dealer who had
pulled it out of his own car (which he had decided to part out). So shop
around, you might find a better deal. Oh yeah, although I did not verify
it, he assured me it was working a week prior to me looking at it which
is the time when he pulled it out.

All in all, it sounds like it might involve a lot of work. Finding the
adapter will be quite hard I think. Good luck,
