Maybe I'm confused or misunderstanding here (hey, it happens a lot), but
what exactly is/was the problem? Seems to me that what you've described
above is absolutely normal; it is the way a normal differential works.

Now if you've got noises, clunks or something like that, or if the car
doesn't move at all when the wheels are on the ground, engine running,
clutch engaged with transmission in a gear, then you've got a problem
somewhere.
