TR6's used several different choke cables during their manufacture. I am
the priginal owner of a 74, which has the solid cable and does not have
choke return springs on the carbs. My choke cable has always stayed
wherever I left it after pulling it out. The earlier cars with the
braided cable and return springs on the carbs probably required the
twist (as did earlier models of TR's) to lock the choke in place.
With regards to preserving the switch plinth while pulling the choke
cable, I have found that pulling the cable with the gas pedal fully
depressed makes the cable easier to pull out.
