Johnny,
Been there, done that... It's neat. Never having been to an authentic
pub over in your neighborhood I can describe it as a good recreation
of an authentic Tudor building (beam and peg construction). Lots of
wood inside, windows are of the leaded and beveled glass variety,
with custom tile work on the floors and walls behind the bar. The
furniture (tables & chairs) are reconstructions of Elizabethan
originals. Other furniture are leather sofas & chairs. There's a
rather massive fireplace in one of the rooms on the 1st floor with
a 16th century date engraved on it. There are prints on the wall
describing hunting, racing, and Battle of Britain scenes on the wall
and harness brass hanging on the beams inside.
The food is very good, the brews are too I think they were serving
Double Diamond on the day I visited. (though I would prefer some
good cider [Blackthorn would do] on tap rather than what's served,
hold the "Peary", please).
Ya know Johnny, it's probably nothing like you would find at home;
no vindaloo, or curry, yet... At least it's not British Railway
steak and kidney pie... (ala Fred Wedlock)
