Another alternative is to find an old center support and hack out the appropriate hole for your new radio...keep your original for reinstallation later. You can do a nice job using black or interior colored plastic as a face plate ...I installed both a modern radio and equalizer in my 73 TR-6 using an old center piece...and retained the center consol as well.
