triumph 2000 estate

Dear all 
    I wonder if anyone can help,my friend owns a Triumph 2000 estate 
mark 1 and his fuel sender unit has stopped working,is it true the 
sender is unique to that particular model or is there anyway it could 
get repaired,he has tried most of the suppliers in England and cannot 
seem to find one
