This is a do it yourself...it's most probably the cable...either it needs
cleaning and re-lubricating...or it has worked loose at one or both
ends....or it requires replacing. Start with the (in the olympic spirit)
'floor exercises' where you contort yourself in such a manner as to
establish whether or not the cable is firmly connected to the back of the
speedo....if it's loose, tighten and do a road test...next check the
connection to the tranny....same story....next remove both ends and pump
some light grease down the cable...reattach and do the road test...finally,
remove the whole thing, measure it carefully and order a new one....keep
the old one for comparison purposes just in case your usually reliable
supplier sends the wrong part (some wrong parts will also cause wild
oscillations)
