Sometimes you win one.
During my rebuild of a 1964 TR4 I decided I wanted two point retratable seat
belts. I'd been looking for something for over a year. The ones from Moss, I
didn't like. Finally found a set at Pep Boys. A set of two point retractable
made by Superior Industries of Van Nuys, Ca. They are replacement belts for
cars, vans,Pick-ups, RV's etc. The roller/retracter fits snugly between the
seat and that fillet at the bottom back of the door frame. It has a sort of
a plastic tunnel or tongue that holds the belt out and up at perfect seat
level. The body mounting bolts are perfectly placed for mouting this unit.
But do use the bracket provided and replace the body bolts with grade 8
bolts. The buckle end uses the original bolts at the tranny tunnel. Only the
mounting anchor at this end either has to be straightened out in a vise, or
(as I did it) restitched so that the bend is at the proper angle. No big
thing to do. If you can't sew any shoe repairshop with an industrial sewing
machine can handle it.
All-in-all a very nice unit that fits perfectly. Fred Sortwell@AOL.com
