I recently exchanged my original Vitesse water pump for a reconditioned
unit from a late model T2000 or T2500 saloon. Although on casual
inspection they looked the same, albeit the new pump doesn't have a nut on
the front, I noticed that when fitted, it did seem to rub against the
housing slightly and it doesn't seem to agitate the water in the radiator
as much as I would expect. Paradoxically the temperature gauge reads
suspiciously low (it is not calibrated in degrees, but I assume it should
sit somewhere in the middle). To add to the confusion the temperature will
oacassionally shoot up quite rapidly when waiting in traffic whilst at
other times it will sit in a traffic jam for ages with no probs.
I would be grateful if anyone who has parts catalogues for
T2000/2500 and/or 2L Vitesse saloons or even for the GT6 could tell me
the part numbers for the water pumps and pump housings fitted to the
variants of the above models. If the impellors have a separate number
these would be particularly useful. I am hoping that from these numbers
I will be able to see if the repalcement waterpump is compatible. Of
course if someone knows that the water pumps definitely are / aren't
interchangeable that info will suffice.
Assuming the water pump is o.k. can anyone suggest another cause
for the above symptoms? Other relavent info follows: I have recently
replaced the thermostat and had the radiator re-cored. The temperature
sender has also been exchanged (with no effect). The timing is set at 10
deg BTDC (specs call for 13 deg, but with higher octane petrol). New points
have been fitted and the dwell seemed consistent at 35deg, although the
distributor has never been serviced in the 90k miles the car has travelled
as far as I am aware.

Thanks in advance for any responses,

Pat Edwards.
