Standard advice is to twist it until it breaks and back off 500 rpm.
Seriously, I have a balanced 948, bored to 998. Stock rods, flat top
pistons 88G 229 cam and 4:55 rear end. I usually shift at 6,000 rpm during
an autocross and run it between 5 and 5.5k on the highway. A well balanced
948 will rev pretty good. Motor has over 20k mi on it and no signs of
breakage, but YMMV may vary and remember the other old saying, "You break
it, you bought it."
