Had some friends drop round before I could finish this.
While you'd expect an aluminium head to run cooler than an Iron head I've
not found this to be the case with the Pierce head so I've run like for like
plug grades with no problems. In fact I think it might try a
colder/harder grade. As for running temps I'm inclined to the view that the
Pierce
head runs a bit hotter and I'm guessing this is because the (too) large inlet
ports remove space that would have otherwise have been used for waterways
in the head and that the waterways are smaller.

Irrespective of the size of the spark plug the thing that matters most is
to use one with an appropriate heat range for the spec (cam) of the engine
and the type of use it's going to be put too (road or race).
