I really hate to ask a question that appears to be this stupid, but
I will. With that as a warning, how do you remove the spark plug
closest to the front of the engine (plug #1 ?) on a 77 Midget. The
problem is that the spark plug socket that I have is to long to get
between/over the plug and the alternator, and the alternator is adjusted
as far away as possible from the plug. As I see it I have the following
choices:

        1. Remove the alternator.
        2. Find a different socket (maybe shorter), or wrench.
        3. Leave the plug in place and pretend that it is good.
        4. Ask the experts.

Am I missing something very obvious? I can't believe that number one is the
answer. Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks,

Bill Gilroy
