Don't quite understand the problem:

A. If you mean that the driveshaft needs to go further
   just to reach the tranny output shaft, then try
   taping the U-joint to keep it from flopping.

2. If you mean that you have mated the splines on the
   driveshaft to the tranny output shaft, but the splined
   pieces will not slide together, then you have a different
   problem. There may be crud up in the tranny output
   shaft housing or inside the female splined  surface.
   Or the shaft may be hanging up on a cross member in
   the tunnel.
