How many of you spitlisters have a bellhouse insert that has a press in
seal as opposed to a scroll type insert with no seal?

I bought a single rail transmission with bellhousing early on my
Spitfire project. It had the long insert with a press in seal.

I also bought an alloy bellhouse, on ebay that had a scroll type insert
machined to use a press in seal. I could not find a copy of that
particular seal.

I decided to use the long insert in the aluminum bellhouse with a ten
spline 3-rail and j-type overdrive. I had to get a different clutch
plate for the borg and beck. Anyone need a new fine spline clutch plate?

When I ordered the seal for the 78 thru 80 bellhouse insert and said it
was for a 3-rail, Spitbits and BPNorthwest both said it would not work,
the input shaft was a different dimension. I found the input shaft for
the single rail trans yesterday and the only difference is the angle on
the very short 1/8" shoulder the seal rides on.

I found a seal that looked right, it had two lips, but I knocked it into
the bellhouse backwards I think. The hollow part facing away from the
transmission. Since the transmission doesn't create much pressure, I
thought I was allright. Then I realized the overdrive makes pressure. So
I need some thoughts on the backwards seal as opposed to the scroll insert.
