When you say "Dynamo", to you mean a generator or an alternator?

Exciting story!  The moral is:  Don't drive while smoke is coming from
the wires!

Also, inspect all the wiring harness under the dash and under the bonnet 
CAREFULLY
for fried wires.  It sort of sounds like you got a voltage surge or short 
circuit.
