Seems to be true of many cars of that age, otherwise I guess lists like

As a result even if I do do the dirty and sell the spit I will still 
stay on list!
As to specific elan problems, I have been monitoring an elan list (call 
me a trator!), and appart from the lack of  rust woes, most of the 
problems are the same as here. There have already been length threads on 
why the clutch hydraulics are a pain, which brake fluid to use, how to 
get the pistons out of brake calipers without killing someone etc...
And BTW the concensus seems to be oil/grease mix in the trunions

Have a friend who has a scimitar with a V6 ford lump. Enjoyed 
demonstrating how he could spin the wheels in second. I put it down to 
near slick rear tyres!. I think they are an aquired taste, but amazingly 
practical!
