Most likely cause is an electrical problem, particularly if it was working
fine one minute and has suddenly stopped working completely.

The switch in the gearknob and the wire leading to it up the gearlever are
prime suspects.  Check those first then trace the rest of the wiring, using
a multi-meter or test light to check whether you have a live wire where you
should.
