BTDT couple of weeks ago. I used a "paint can opener," the kind from the
paint supply store, maybe the auto paint store, to pry the cap or cover off.
It looks like a bottle opener with a screwdriver on the other end. The
screwdriver end has a 1/16th or less 90 degree bend to it. A couple of prys
with this and the cap moves up to the surface of the housing, and once or
twice more and it falls to the floor. This lets you reuse the same cap.
Count the turns on the nut when you remove it, as per the book, then pry the
seal out and put the new on in, then replace the cap.
