John,

It was I who had the damp trousers problem last autumn. Check out the list
 archives, searching for Soggy Trousers as the subject, for the full exchange
 of messages on the subject -
 http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.cgi?ln=spitfires&mid=&sp=&q=Soggy+Trousers&;
s=1&o=1&x=34&y=14 should take you straight to the search results. There were a
 variety of suggestions.

I suspected water leaking in at the corner of the windscreen, past the seal,
 and put some silicone sealant over the area, which helped. I don't think that
 solved it completely. I'm still not sure what the full problem is, but it's
 been a while since it's rained that hard so I've stopped caring (at least
 until autumn arrives again!).

I have a scary suspicion that, with the amount of corrosion on the windscreen
 pillar, water is actually running down inside the windscreen pillar and then
 into the car. No proof, it's very hard to trace the source, but it's a
 possibility.

Good luck!

Richard & Daffy
