A 70 is also an MK3 - the last year of the MK3. I have the same dash layout
you are describing. The hubcaps, do they look like these

Also, where is your backup lights? You can see from the picture above that
mine is over the licence plate.

One other question - what is the Vin number of the car - I am curious when
they started using those hubcaps. I located a couple spares, but they are
hard to fing.

Thanks

Chuck,

The car is definitely a '69.

According to Jeff McNeal, another member of the newsletter group, the dash
was configured on the '69 Mk3's for the US market first (black vinyl
covered), then changed to wood for the production of the Mk4's with the same
layout in '70. The earlier Mk2's and Mk3's had the center instrument
arrangement in a Walnut panel.

As for the hubcaps, what I have is a rather ugly, plain steel rim (not
slotted) with a full cover hubcap. according to Jeff and others, these were
stock but limited. Actually, they were intended and used for early 1970's US
models but may have been used on some late sales '69 models. They are
considered a very rare item. Go figure.

Thanks again, just thought I'd pass the info along.
Tommy
