I just added some aluminum valance panels in order to keep rain water from
splashing from my left wheel and drowning my distributor! My engine had
stalled when I ran through a particularly deep puddle last year.
As far as I can tell, it may help with the cooling by channeling the fan's
air along the engine rather that out the rear wells. Just a thought.
Is your Spit a 1979-1980 with a slant radiator? If so, I have a pattern for
the valance panels in case your are interested.

Dear All,
As you will have seen from a recent e-mail, I have just discovered that
Carly is supposed to have engine valances. But why? They can only
get in the way when you are trying to work on or around the engine, and
must hinder heat dissipation from the block. Carly runs perfectly well
without them (indeed she runs a little cool on all but the hottest
days). Should I replace these, or was their removal in the first place
a good idea?
