Well, Nolan, Motorhead may have been wrong about something with you, but, 
they're not wrong about this. My "priceless" "The Triumph Spitfire" book 
says, 1975 California cars had catalysts and used unleaded fuel. Catalytic 
converters were added to Fed Spec cars in later years as emissions 
requirements grew more stringent. It also notes, interestingly, that 1976 
Calif. cars had 7.5:1 compression while 1976 Fed Spec cars had 9:1, so not 
all 76's had high compression. Something to watch for if you're shopping for 
a high compression engine.
