Before you can split the case, you must remove the half shafts from the
diff.  Once the allen bolts are removed the half shafts, with their
bearings and retaining flange (the one held on by those bolts) will simply
pull out, although you may have to help them by tapping on the flange a
bit.  Don't get carried away here, you don't want to bend or damage the
flanges.  A gentle tapping with a soft drift should normally persuade them
to come out.  Only after these are removed can the back of the case be
separated from the front half.
