You should be able to reach all the necessary parts just be removing the inside
panel. I managed to do this with the inside panel only part removed, but I
regret it because now the panel has a crease in it.
ISTR that there are two levers which come down from the handle and connect to
the locking mechanism - one locks/unlocks the door, and the other opens the
door. Establish which is which (pull the door-handle and see which one moves).
The door-opening one is probably either not adjusted correctly, or not attached
at all.
