Mythical Hood pin donuts

Thanks to all who replied re:my mythical hood pin donuts.  The consensus is that
they are the figment of a previous owner who was likely trying to stop a rattle.
 I'm now looking forward to removing whatever they were/are from the old girl
as they certainly didn't contribute much to the underbonnet view.
