I'm not a plumber, but I have to agree.  There is still water in the line.
Any water in the line will make soldering very difficult if not impossible.
You may have to cut the pipe to drain the rest of the water.  Then sweat in
another coupling to fix the cut.

A plumber friend told me that he used bread stuffed into a pipe to keep
water from draining to the area he was trying to solder.  After the water
was turned back on the bread would dissolve without a problem.

I would say that the only way this can happen is if you still have 
water in the line.  Oxy-acetylene should be major overkill for this 
job.  Go back and make extra sure that the line is really drained.
