John, I apologize in advance for suggesting ... did you check the thermal cutout
on the motor ?  Mine will pop sometimes, if I run the compressor long enough ...

Does it hum and get hot, or just sit there stone cold ?  A bad starting cap will
usually cause a loud hum followed shortly by a blown breaker and the motor
getting noticeably warm.  If it just sits there cold, then power is not getting
to either set of windings, which suggests a broken wire (or a popped breaker).

Anyone know offhand what kind of induction motor is commonly found on 220V air
compressors ?  I'm assuming it's capacitive start, but maybe some are capacitive
run ?  Not likely it's inductive start, since air compressors need a lot of
starting torque.  Anyway, the above comments should apply to any of them.
