Since we are on the subject of post hole digging, I have a question.

I have a split rail fence around the back of our yard. The problem is
that a few of the posts have rotted and broken off. A couple of others
have been broken off when a tree landed on part of the fence during a
storm.

I've been considering renting a power auger to dig new holes, but wonder
if it would be able to "dig" through the old somewhat rotted "stumps" in
the original holes (I have to put the new posts in the same place as the
originals). Anyone know if the power auger would do the job? Or do I
just need to buy some dynamite...
