salt kills everything.
The Romans salted the earth when they conquered other
peoples, to poison the land so they couldn't farm on it.
Depending on soil and rainfall it'll wash out anywhere from
pretty soon to never (salt intrusion is a big problem in
agriculture, spoiling thousands of acres a year just here in
California).
So don't use it where you'd like to grow something.
