We once made a new head gasket for an air cooled dirt bike from an
aluminum Coke can as a temporary fix.  It worked so well, that it stayed
in place until the next engine tear down was required.

I have had one of the cheap Harbor Freight gasket punch sets for many
years and have had to use it on occasion.  It works just fine and saves
the day.  I still have most of my big sheet (roll) of gasket material
that I bought years ago too...
