That is the recipe for Ed's Red bore solvent.  It's been around for 
probably 60 years (originally with slightly different ingredients).  It's 
an excellent gun bore cleaner, as good or better than most of the 
commercial solvents.  I make it a gallon at a time and keep some in a spray 
bottle for general cleaning.
