Class 3 hitch

OK, here's a really dumb question: are all Class 3 hitch receivers capable
of weight distributing?

I'm about to replace my tow vehicle. The new vehicle is available with a
factory-installed optional Class 3 receiver. The local dealer doesn't know
if this receiver is capable of being used with a weight-distributing hitch,
he thinks so but can't find any documentation from the vehicle OEM that says
so.

The local aftermarket hitch dealer says I should skip the OEM optional Class
3 receiver, and buy an aftermarket receiver from him instead. He says that
is the only way I can be sure that the receiver is actually capable of being
used with a weight-distributing set-up. He sort of implies that Class 3
receivers come in two types, one type is weight-carrying only and the other
type is weight-carrying or weight-distributing -- he doesn't exactly SAY
this, but sort of hints at it.

I don't trust the vehicle dealer (not knowledgeable about towing) or the
hitch dealer (self-serving?). So, does anyone on this list know for sure?
Are all Class 3 receivers inherently capable of being used with a
weight-distributing system?

Thanks,
Mark Palmer
