I don't understand, Phil. Why don't you just run a short hose from the 
compressor to the reel and leave the tail end of the coiled up hose sticking 
out 
to connect to the one from the compressor.

I bought a couple of the $19.99 HF reels and can keep about 100' of 3/8" hose 
on 
one and 50' of 1/2" hose on the other. (I have two compressors and use the 1/2" 
hose with the big one for use with high volume tools and the smaller line is 
used with the smaller compressor for filling tires and other small jobs.)
