If it was a Craftsman, you could take it back and get a new one for free.
The bar type Craftsman torque wrenches are guaranteed for life...no questions
asked. The micro-torque (Or whatever they call it. The kind that you dial
in and it clicks.) are guaranteed for one year.
My son-in-law had a bar type wrench for years. He lent it to a friend who
used it as a breaker bar. Bent the thing. He took it back and got a new one
for free. Sears doesn't care. It's all marketing. They cost a few dollars
to make and they sell them for 5 times that.
I have a Craftsman bar type 3/8" drive and a micro-torque 1/2" drive wrench.
