Organize them into a couple of groups of roughly equal amp-hour
capacity. Wire each group *in series* with fused fine-gauge wire. Push
a current of about C/500 through each series string from a
transformer-isolated source. (C = amp-hour capacity of one battery in
group). Ventilate the area well. Hang warning signs all around the
place, cautioning passersby that a lot of batteries are wired together
and are being charged. Be careful!

People with experience charging large lead acid series strings include
Uninterruptible Power Supply operators and folks with DC solar and/or
wind power setups.
