I'll jump in on this one.  I have several 1x4" fence pickets that make
great racks for mounting on the wall.  It's just right for aerosol cans,
oil filters, and other little bottles and cans.  I attach right angle
steel brackets at an appropriate spacing so that they nail into the
wall studs.  I've also built one of these things for cassette tapes.

As far as wire, I have the bigger pieces coiled and on a shelf.  Smaller
pieces go into one of several appropriately labeled copier paper boxes
on shelves.
