Well Rick,

The Sunday in the Netherlands is dull due to autumn rain and chill temps.

We=E2=80=99ve skipped the MGCC club tour, as it rains all day long.

But yesterday I spent work on two of my Puch classic mopeds (1970 -1973).

The 1973 model suffered of a broken central stand last year.

Left me in a nasty position being able to ride the bike, but not being able=
 to park it.

And a new stand is a problem, because these all are aftermarket and the qua=
lity is terrible.

Finally last week a replacement stand of acceptable quality was delivered a=
nd I made it fit.

As the bike stood still for over a year, it did not want to start unless th=
e choke was used all time.

It proved to be, that a stand still period for a long time is bad.

The European law forcing bio-ethanol added to the regular fuel makes a stil=
l standing carb clogged.

Last week 95 octane fuel has to be 10% bio-ethanol, which makes even post-m=
odern cars vulnerable for this nasty fuel additive.

So I=E2=80=99ll change the type of fuel for my mopeds to a special one. The=
BGT will get the 98 octane fuel, which contains 5% bio-ethanol.

Cleaning the carb float chamber and jet solved the issue.

The bike went like old days again afterwards!

The 1970 model suffered of a running hot piston (sudden high friction pisto=
n) a few months ago.

So a week ago I took all apart and the piston and cylinder showed overheati=
ng and were damaged.

So I replaced these.

Not a very difficult job to do, but again the aftermarket quality spoiled t=
he job somehow.

The exhaust side of the new cylinder is not really the same fit as the orig=
inal.

So I had to change the shape of the exhaust pipe flange, in order not hitti=
ng the cooling rib.

Also the exhaust pipe gasket had to be reshaped, in order to fit well with =
the flange.

Remembered me to the BGT=E2=80=99s replacement front bumper in the mid-nine=
ties.

Poor fit and lots of wiggling to get it mounted well.

>From a wet Holland =E2=80=93 Cheers!

Hans

Onderwerp: [Mgs] Sunday morning, a bit OT

Hello Friends, and good morning from South Texas!

Another hot day is forecast for today so I plan to get my car work (play?) =
done early. Two jobs are in the queue, neither of which involves the Masera=
ti, strangely enough! :-P The first is filling two petrol jugs with fuel an=
d heading to my shop. The Triumph TR6 ran out of gas while moving it about =
yesterday. My grandson and I ended up pushing it into position, ready for t=
omorrow's transport.

Once the TR6 is fueled, its back to the house to spend an hour or so on the=
MG TD. That car is to get the other half of its tune up. Specifically, the=
timing will be checked, and adjusted as required, valves adjusted, and th=
e SU carburetors will get cleaned and the linkage lubricated. The car will =
get a new brake master cylinder, but not today. Rather, a garage cleanup is=
needed first so the master cylinder job can happen cleanly and efficiently=
=2E

As much as I have enjoyed working on the Biturbo, it's nice that I now don'=
t have to do so! It's running great. Yesterday, the car started at the firs=
t turn of the key and ran great as I moved cars around. After completing a =
few more competing projects, the car will get regular use.

You? How are you spending your Sunday? Any LBC projects in the queue. I kno=
w some of you are contemplating winter storage and maintenance projects for=
your cars, but for us on America's south coast, its driving season!

Rick
