About 6 months ago I had a similar problem as I had to change the flywheel,
which had been balanced as part of the rotating assembly. I found a hitech 1
man machine shop with an electronic balancing set up as opposed to the
earlier balancing tools. Foerge was ablew to measure the out of balance in
my original flywheel & create the same out of balance in the new wheel.

I had talked to 4 or 5 shops who said it couldn't be done. George explained
that it depended upon the equipment used.

If this could be done with a fly wheel, no reason it couldn't be done with
the balancer. Charge for the flywheel was $75.00.

I have had 3 engines balanced. Charge was always around $200.00. $450.00 is
way out of line. I am outside of Washington, DC, one of the more expensive
areas in the country. Perhaps someone in the local Cleveland MG club can
help find a machinist. Try NAMGAR for a listing of clubs in your area &
contacts.

Long ago I had the rotating assembly of my 302 engine balanced... crank,
pistons, rods, OEM dampener and a flexplate for a C4 trans. I assembled the
engine but havent run it yet. After that, I changed my mind and got a T5 and
a
new aluminum flywheel. I'm now buying a new Fluidampr harmonic dampener
(the
OEM rubber is over 30 yrs old), and I'm wondering: Do I need to take it all
apart and have it all balanced again? I will disassemble and reassemble
anyhow
before firing this summer to be sure assembly lube is OK, but I dont want to
waste $450 for balancing, etc. if I dont need that.
I asked on the list for a recommendation for a Clevaland Ohio shop who
does
good, accurate work but got no replies. I've found a place in our Yellow
Pages who seems expensive and I dont know about their reputation. Can
anyone
help here?
