James,

What timing! I have just come back from the specialist silencer (muffler)
shop where they are putting in a 2" system back from my primaries and
secondary exhaust manifold on my MGB GT V8. They showed me a resonator and
a muffler that they intend to use. I asked the obvious - what's the
difference? The answer was "not much". The resonator does not have so
much packing (stainless wool or glass) and has a less restrictive
construction - and smaller. So I think the resonator is sort of a
half-hearted silencer. I would be interested to hear form the experts though!
