Hi Howard,
    If originality is not an issue, these folks can probably supply a 
replacement starter. I got a generator from them for 100 bucks, but it was 
Lucas "India", and had no markings. Looked for all the world like a Lucas, 
but without the Lucas stampings. (Disclaimer: I have no connection or 
interest, they just seemed like good people.)

I sent it back and had my Lucas generator rebuilt at NRE Automotive 
Rebuilders, Hamden, CT.
