Right. The seat rails with the X bracing attach at the front only using
the small hinged area. They are BSF hex bolts of about 5/16 in size.

correct? Are thosehinges supposed to be black?

Small, about 1/2 inch black round headed screws.

3. On which side of the seat bottoms does the spring-loaded adjuster
slide go?

Outside on both seats. (Left for LHD drivers side and right for
passengers) YOu can't reverse them as they won't go onto the floorboard
rails unless you use the drivers side on the passengers, etc.
