John,

To the best of my knowledge, the gearbox rear cover and bell housing
were always painted the same color as the engine. The body, of course,
was left natural aluminum.

Regards,

Lew

Lew,

Been meaning to take some time to look at the engine and head of the J2,
so I went down to the basement (it's a very slow moving restoration) and
can find both red and green on the head. I really couldn't tell which
paint is the first layer but will try to look again when time permits.
The block looks mostly black. The block is the original one for the car
but I don't know about the head.

I'm surprised that with all this talk about engine color that no one has
mentioned gearbox color. Is it the same as the engine? Some time ago got
some red paint from Sports & Vintage that is really bright red. I
painted the gearbox with it 12 years ago but since then I think I will
change to either a darker red or possibly a green.

Are you willing to take on the task of compiling gearbox colors?
