Brian,

Some years ago I had the same situation on my J2. No get up and go. (It
had gotten up and gone.) After much head scratching, I rather
embarrassingly discovered that I had the wrong distributor which was
designed to rotate in a direction opposite of that which was proper on a
J2. I believe it was from a TC. Check that the rotation is correct -
otherwise you'll get no spark advance, whatsoever.

Regards,
Lew Palmer

Subject: PA Distributors

I have just completed the partial rebuild of my 1934 PA (PA0777) and had
it
running on the road this week for the first time in 16 years, ready for
next
weeks 40th Anniversary of the MMM Register events leading up to MG
Silverstone. Initial impressions are that the car is very sluggish on
hills
compared to my 38 TA with MPJG engine of course!
The only area of concern at present is the distributor fitted to the
car,
this is a DKYH4A 40196, not the correct DK4A 400186.... Does anyone know
what vehicle the DKYHA 40196 distributor came off, and whether it is
suitable for the PA? I will be looking for the correct DK4A distributor
in
due course, but will have to make do with the other one for the time
being....
Happy days, Brian Rainbow Leamington Spa, U.K.
