I have to say that your sports "defacto historian" and corrector of wrongs
seems to have picked on the use of the word 'World' in a press announcement
about the film and the achievements on the salt of Burt Munro. Without
accurate knowledge this time, LAN has fired up half a dozen competitors to
write to the film producers - were they all bike racers by the way?

Malcolm,

Your post is right on. BTW, Burt still holds the class record they refer to!
Which in my mind is the world record. I have doubts that anyone anywhere in
the world has exceeded this class record.

The World Record reference in no way is suggesting that those holders of
unlimited speeds are being challenged.

To me, this whole discussion is an embarrassment to our sport. I also
include the chastising of Autoweek who is an innocent party in all this.
They were acting on information given them by what I am sure they saw as a
reliable source. They were quick to correct their mistake when given other
info.
