Actually, that's a pretty common way to bend a rim.
The tire can be OK (or not visibly damaged)
but the inner rim will have taken a hard hit and deformed.
I have a particularly soft set of OZ's that I taco'ed (technical term)
by hitting a road hump-
the outer rim is still round,
but the inner rim was a pretzel.
A whole lotta wacks with a 5lb dead- blow hammer
and it's roundish again.

But I won't put it on the race car!
